Fear is not accepting the present situation or the reluctance (resistance) of letting a situation go, positive or negative. It is a very subtle phenomenon in the mind that often derails our best intentions of doing something positive. Having a clear understanding of yourself through self-knowledge supports you from being totally incapacitated by fearful thoughts. A distinction must be seen between a fearful thought and a fearful situation. The skill is to distinguish between a life-challenging moment and a life-threatening situation. Clarity of mind and settled emotions in self-knowledge is very supportive for commanding fear and this is only realised through meditation.
